Tadataka Unno, a talented pianist living in New York who was the first and last regular member of the Roy Hargrove Quintet, loved by numerous jazz legends such as Hank Jones and Jimmy Cobb, releases his new album, Get My Mojo Back.
In September 2020, Tadataka Unno was the victim of an Asian hate crime caused by the spread of the new coronavirus, suffered a mass assault on the subway premises of New York, and suffered serious injuries such as a broken right shoulder, which can be said to be fatal to pianists. That fact was taken up by CBS in the United States and news programs in Japan, and a large amount of donations were collected from all over the world for crowdfunding launched by a friend musician immediately afterwards.
After that, he revived splendidly with his indomitable spirit and hard rehabilitation. The journey was introduced in the NHK special What A Wonderful World-The Sanctuary of Jazz that Fighted Division, broadcasted in November 2021, and received a lot of feedback. In addition, the Japan tour held at the same time was also a great success with an audience who was pleased with their return.
The album Get My Mojo Back was recorded in New York in July and September 2021 with fellow musicians who supported me. It is composed of original songs written when it was not possible to play the piano during medical treatment, and the work is full of vitality and joy. A release from the Verve label, where Oscar Peterson, a pianist who gave Unno a chance to meet jazz, was also enrolled.
