"An ageless recording of true historical import in all matters Latin and jazz."
- All About Jazz

"... showcases Dorham's interest in combining Latin music with jazz and his distinct compositional and arranging skills. It also features a who's who of Blue Note hard boppers ..."
- Jazz.com

"Dorham never sounded more like Dizzy Gillespie than on Afro-Cuban, punching out single note statements across the rhythms."
- The Penguin Guide to Jazz

Trumpeter Kenny Dorham released what many believe was the finest album of his all-too-short career in 1955, Afro-Cuban. Recorded over two sessions, one with a sextet, the other with a nonet, this album combines Latin music with jazz and showcases Dorham's distinct compositional and arranging skills. Considering the time period, the music on Afro-Cuban remains way ahead of the Latin-tinged and hard bop music that would follow in the late 1950s and 1960s. It also features a who’s who of Blue Note hard boppers: Hank Mobley and Cecil Payne on saxophones, J. J. Johnson on trombone, Horace Silver on piano, Art Blakey on drums and bassists Percy Heath and Oscar Pettiford.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
