Digital Booklet
|
"[Hoppe and Beatson's] account of the Poulenc [is] tense, dramatic and imaginative, with Beatson piling up huge, gothic crags of tone at the tragic climaxes and Hoppe glinting and whispering in the brooding central elegy... like everything else on this enjoyable but idiosyncratic disc, it’s certainly not short of character."
- Gramophone
Award-winning musician Esther Hoppe has established herself as a stylistically confident and virtuosic violinist in both the solo and chamber music repertoires. Together with Scottish pianist Alasdair Beatson, Hoppe released a highly praised album of works by Mozart and Stravinsky in 2014: the sequel presented here was recorded in Munich in April 2016 and showcases Hoppe's fine instrument, a 1690 violin by Gioffredo Cappa.
