Cellist Antonio Lysy captures the cultural range of his native Argentina on this 2010 release of works that draw inspiration from the country's rich folk music traditions. This album highlights the cello as a solo instrument and illustrates the impact of pre-Hispanic Amerindian traditions and Spanish based Creole influences as well as the effect of more modern musical developments like the tango. Famed Argentine composer Lalo Schifrin was commisioned to write the Latin Grammy-winning composition Pampas for this recording, a work that evokes the rich grasslands stretching from Buenos Aires to Patagonia. The Absolute Sound named this album one of the "40 Best Recordings of All Time."
