Charles Ives was an innovator of the orchestral set, a type of larger work comprised of independently written small pieces. Each of the three orchestral sets presented here by the Malmö Chamber Choir, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, and conductor James Sinclair follow a slow-fast-slow pattern, with the unfinished Orchestral Set No. 3 being of particular note, as this is the work's first complete performance and recording.
