"Four Stars ... projected here with infectious enthusiasm by Shui and his excellent orchestra." - BBC Music Magazine "... Lan Shui and the Singapore Symphony are fantastic throughout, showing not just a great colour palette and top quality orchestral sound but the kind of life, liveliness and humour necessary." - MusicWeb International The Singapore Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor Lan Shui present unjustly neglected works by Hungarian composer Karl Goldmark, known today mainly for his violin concerto. During his lifetime he was praised for the quality of his instrumentation, his skillful use of folk music and his evident gift for melody. Composed in 1875, his Rustic Wedding Symphony remains his most popular orchestral piece. At its premiere the audience hailed it as a triumph and Goldmark’s friend Brahms said about it: "clear-cut and faultless, it sprang into being a finished thing, like Minerva from the head of Jupiter." Composed some 10 years later, Goldmark’s Symphony No. 2 is far less familiar. Although its form is more traditional than that of its predecessor, it is similar in mood, bucolic and high-spirited, providing rich opportunities to sample Goldmark’s talent as an orchestrator and musical colourist.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
