After a four year break and various sideline projects, the members of Texas band Spoon reconvened in the studio to work on their 2014 release They Want My Soul. Recording with outside producers for the first time, the band started with Joe Chiccarelli (Alanis Morissette, My Morning Jacket, Morrissey) before finishing the album with Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Sparklehorse, MGMT). Spoon's frontman Britt Daniel credits Fridmann with giving the album its aesthetic although some of the work they did with Chiccarelli made it to the final release. This album also marks the debut of new guitarist and keyboard player Alex Fischel.
