“The Edinburgh singers perform with a robust though polished fervour. Alto, tenor and bass lines are beyond reproach, while the mixed-sex treble line copes admirably with exposed writing. The recorded sound is first-class, capturing both voices and instruments (including some excellent organ-playing) with an engaging immediacy.”
- Gramophone

“Under its young director Duncan Ferguson, the choir is reaching new heights… They always sounded fresh-voiced; now, following last year’s Taverner disc, the atmospheric richness of this new recital of Bruckner motets has generated a CD potent enough to knock major-label competitors into the long grass.”
- The Times

“This performance is just superb. It’s the kind of disc you want to turn up to full volume and lose yourself in, whether you’re of a religious bent or not. Through their crisp, measured phrases, limpid textures, and their reverent but never syrupy tone, they’ve captured the simplicity and humility of both texts and music… This is a disc to be revisited and savoured again and again.”
- BBC Music Magazine

“This is an excellent disc. The performances are thrilling and intense and they are captured in an excellent recording that mixes spaciousness and clarity… Duncan Ferguson offers a bracing approach to Bruckner...”
- MusicWeb International

Recorded in the icy acoustic of St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh, this collection of Bruckner’s motets is performed by the choir of St Mary’s with the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama Brass Orchestra, under the baton of up-and-coming young conductor Duncan Ferguson. This album follows highly praised recordings by Ferguson and the choir of works by John Taverner, Gabriel Jackson, and John Sheppard.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
