Ivor Bolton has been chief conductor of the Basel Symphony Orchestra since the beginning of the 2016/17 season . He took over from American conductor Dennis Russell Davies, who conducted the orchestra from 2009-2016. In the UK he was chief conductor of English Touring Opera, Glyndebourne Touring Opera and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Ivor Bolton has always had a special connection to British music. The present album with lesser-known music by Benjamin Britten was therefore very important to him right from the start. The program consists of the early cycle Our Hunting Fathers (with tenor Mark Padmore) from the Quatre Chansons Françaises (a stroke of genius by the only 14-year-old composer) and the symphonic suite from the - wrongly - rarely performed opera Gloriana.
