Melbourne-based bass player and composer Monty Shnier presents his debut album Where the Blackwoods Grow, a collection of compositions recorded in late February through ABC Jazz. The tunes on this recording are about creating balance between composition and improvisational interpretation with tunes that seek to create contrasting points of tender beauty with energy, chaos, and cathartic release.
A longtime composer and Bandleader, Monty’s compositions highlight the skill and voices of the improvisers he works with, whilst his melodies evoke the lyricism and drama of folk, jazz and classical music in equal measure.
