Critically acclaimed Italian baroque ensemble Il pomo d’oro accompanies Swedish mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg on Carnevale 1729, a collection of rediscovered works, many of which are recorded here for the first time. This pairing of soloist and ensemble reignites the atmosphere of fevered musical excitement associated with the 1729 Carnival of Venice, an event which saw opera houses in frenzied competition to showcase the most famous singers of the day and resulted in some of the most breathtaking displays of virtuosity from this period of Italian music.
