ZILT was formed as a result of the monthly encounters in a whisky bar on Amsterdam’s Zeedijk where an upcoming talent met an old salt who was more than 30 years his senior...
Ian Cleaver, winner of the Princess Christina Concours in 2016, is one of the greatest trumpet talents of the new Dutch jazz generation. His play is deeply rooted in jazz tradition but he doesn’t shy away from adventure.
Jasper Blom is one of the most important sax players on the Dutch jazz scene, one of the most versatile instrumentalists in the BeNeLux and also a striking phenomenon as band leader. He teaches at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
After a showcase at Rotterdam’s InJazz Festival, invitations have poured in for ZILT. Meanwhile ZILT performed very successfully at the international jazz festivals of Pescara and Siena in Italy with a Tribute to Mengelberg. They play compositions by the brilliant and wayward jazz pianist and bandleader/composer Misha Mengelberg. In the spirit of Mengelberg, the jazz tradition is present but the music may take a completely different turn at any moment, expectedly or unexpectedly.
