Violinist Judith Ingolfsson and pianist Vladimir Stoupel combine their skills as soloists in the Concert-Centenaire series, a unique collaboration dedicated to composers whose lives were affected or influenced by the First World War. This second instalment honours the music of French composer Louis Vierne, whose life was marked by terrible blows of fate, but who nevertheless reached the heights of his profession. While his works are for the most part ignored today, this recording re-established Verne as a masterful composer with bold emotive capabilities.
