Following the brilliant re-reading of John Coltrane’s A Love Surpreme, French composer and arranger Christophe Dal Sasso presents Les Nébuleuses, a cycle of compositions inspired by astronomical phenomena. While Dal Sasso’s skills with the big band format have been recognized by critics throughout the jazz world, for this release he attempts to reproduce the diffuse and unstable character of nebulae by combining a string trio with a jazz quartet, making this album a journey through the cosmos as well as an exercise in timbre and balance.
