Adeem the Artist, a seventh-generation Carolinian, a makeshift poet, singer-songwriter, storyteller, and blue-collar Artist, releases their studio album White Trash Revelry, which was funded largely through $1 contributions via Venmo, Cashapp, & PayPal. From Adeem: "I said, 'Well, we'd have to raise at least 5k by the end of the week to hire the folks I'd want to hire and all that.' Kyle said, 'Maybe you can, I don't know.' So, that night I posted a silly Tik Tok saying all I needed was 15,000 people to donate $1 each for the album to be funded." That included a budget for production, mastering, publicist, radio, & the whole shebang. By Tuesday, they had $5,000. Adeem paid for the studio time and started asking people if they'd come. By the end of December, all the parts had been tracked & they were slack jawed. The result is an album that embraces the traditions of Country while breaking its conventions, carving a space out for queer identity in the world of blue-collar music. Richard brings his girlfriend by and they smoke a joint and we rent a film from the blockbuster in Gastonia [...] I wish I could slip back inside. I wish I could visit the trailer and see my parents in their youth, still full of hope and playing video games [...] I feel so far and away from all of the people who were pillars of my youth. Hardly a one remains. I am just this lost villager from a forgotten & abandoned people; a punchline in some white liberal's social media diatribe. A white trash wanderer- living ghost of my ancestors." - Adeem the Artist
