The Verbier Festival and Deutsche Grammophon are delighted to release the next offering in their series Verbier Festival Gold – a joint venture between the two classical music powerhouses. Boasting a vast archive overflowing with precious gems captured in the Festival’s concert halls in the Swiss Alps, this new record label make sthe Verbier Festival experience more accessible to audiences around the world and showcase eminent classical artists, many of them with a close affiliation to the Yellow Label, in unusual formations and repertoire. This edition features Mikhail Pletnev, who presents Haydn’s Keyboard Concerto in D Major with the Verbier Festival Orchestra under the baton of Iván Fischer. The concerto is supplemented by Tsfasman’s Suite for Piano and Orchestra and six encores from his 2018 & 2021 appearances at the legendary alpine festival. Mikhail Pletnev is recognised as one of the finest artists of our time. He won the Gold Medal and First Prize in the 1978 International Tchaikovsky Competition at the age of 21, which brought him early recognition throughout the world. In 1990 he founded the Russian National Orchestra, joined by the best artists, and later founded the Mikhail Pletnev Fund, which supports major national cultural projects. A member of the Russian Cultural Council, in 2007 he received the President’s Award for his contribution to the country’s artistic life. The cumulative roles of pianist, conductor and composer are all important aspects of his life as an artist. However, he has the humility to always consider himself as a simple musician.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
