Specialists in the music of France and England from the early 20th century, the Paris-based Ensemble 1904 here present fresh interpretations of songs by Poldowski, the pseudonym of composer Irène Régine Wieniawska. The daughter of composer violinist Henryk Wieniawski, Poldowski worked extensively on setting the poetry of Paul Verlaine. All twenty-two of her compositions in that vein are available on this recording, including the recent rediscovery of Nous Deux, presented in new arrangements for soprano, violin, piano, and double bass by director and pianist David Jackson.
