"A certain winner for all who enjoy music and playing packed with character and spirit."
- Classic FM
"The Purcell Quartet and their friends show here that the British manner of period performance still has plenty to offer. Their sound is sweet, well blended and deliciously light and airy and avoids any suggestion of clumsy interpretative exaggeration. Technically, too, they are well in command ..."
- Gramophone
This is the second volume of 17th century Italian works from The Purcell Quartet and His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornets, representing such composers as Marini, Stradella, Vitali and Rossi. The album features soloists Robert Woolley on organ and harpsichord, Jane Rogers on viola and Jakob Lindberg on chitarrone. His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts pioneered the rediscovery of 17th century ceremonial wind music played at coronations and other great occasions in the chapels and courts of England and Europe, while The Purcell Quartet has established itself as a leader in the area of Baroque chamber music.
