"From Bohemia's grove and field" - this is the most apt way to sum up the common roots of the four composers featured on Bohemian String Trios. Works written by Pichl and Vanhal in the early classical style are heard, and with Martinů and Leistner-Meyer they are juxtaposed with authors who, invoking classical ideals, enrich the repertoire with aesthetic means of expression of their time. If you like exploring new things and want to expand your listening horizons, this program is the right choice.
Based on Goethe's well-known aperçu about the string quartet, one hears four sensible people talking and believes that one gains something from their discourse and learns about the peculiarities of the instruments, this idea can very well also apply to the genre "string trio". Although these are only three "sensible people", they cover all registers and can stand up to a quartet with a powerful sound. Four works by four Bohemian composers from different epochs document this in an impressive way - including two premiere recordings by Pichl and by Leistner-Mayer, whose latest string trio was also premiered in 2022 in the "Gilching Concert Series".
