"... the album is really something special ... a reminder of just how fine a vocalist Freda Payne is. For the youngsters, they have something to discover."
- Blogcritics.org
"... a sophisticated mix of elegance and style that will stand the test of time. Freda Payne goes back to her roots as a traditional jazz singer and nails it!"
- CriticalJazz.com
"Decades later, with undiminished pipes, beauty and impressive energy, Payne returns to the spotlight with this big band outing ... a thoroughly enjoyable and versatile collection."
- All About Jazz
Though best known for her 1970 smash pop hit Band of Gold, Freda Payne has always first and foremost been a jazz singer. Come Back To Me Love marks not only a return to the big band and strings-laden classics from her mid-1960s beginnings on Impulse! but is also a return to her hometown of Detroit. That makes this album, featuring Grammy winner Bill Cunliffe’s musical arrangements, a beautiful homecoming. Payne sings some of her longtime favourites alongside several original tunes, the music split between powerful big band jazz and classy contemporary pop with strings.
"It’s a dream come true. Just like in 1968 ... a flashback to something really good happening for me at home in Detroit, my good luck charm."
