"... the most satisfying recording (of Saint Nicolas) since the first version over half a century ago. A performance like this makes a strong case for it as being one of Britten’s most masterly as well as most loveable works."
- MusicWeb International

"Four Stars ... delivers a particularly thrilling, emotionally charged impact ... the playing is alert, crisp and brimful of character ... Kennedy is a fervent saint, voicing his faith and selfless devotion with strength and sensitivity and the choral singing is first-rate."
- The Telegraph

The Choir of King’s College marked Benjamin Britten’s 100th birthday in 2013 with the release of this epic recording of Saint Nicolas, starring highly-acclaimed tenor Andrew Kennedy in the title role. He is joined by a chorus of men and boys (the King’s College Choir), a gallery chorus of girls (the Sawston Village College Choir), the Britten Sinfonia and a congregation of mixed voices (the Cambridge University Music Society). The version presented here closely follows the staging and instrumentation of the premiere of the work at the first Aldeburgh Festival in 1948. In addition to Saint Nicolas, the programme also includes two of Britten’s most popular choral works, the Hymn to Saint Cecilia and Rejoice in the Lamb.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
