Luca Zambito's new quartet album Ancestry presents the diversity of the pianist and his band in a refreshing way. Together with the three exceptional musicians from Munich, Moritz Stahl on tenor and soprano saxophone, Nils Kugelmann on double bass and drummer Valentin Renner, a world of interactive improvisation emerges, the joy of playing and the energy of which spreads to the audience. At the same time, lyrical moments with romantic and impressionistic influences characterize the band's sound, which gets a unique freshness through the special dynamics and the interaction of the four musicians.
The title Ancestry also has a personal background and refers to origin and its processing. This process inspired some of the tracks on the album and, when listening, leads into a wide field of emotional worlds, into their intimate moments, their explosive excesses, but also into the playful joy of the process itself.
All in all an organic mix between modern post bop and contemporary jazz with freely improvised elements.
Played by four musicians who listen attentively and surprise each other, so that even while listening you always stay on your tiptoes.
