Robin Milford was born in Oxford in 1921. As a nervous and insecure young man he ventured to The Royal College of Music where amongst others his tutor was Vaughan Williams. He studied the organ with Henry Ley and his early works were not disimilar to the style of Stanford and Wood and with his recent marriage to Kirstie Newsom it gave him the emotional stability and happiness that was so much needed. During the 1930s he had successes in further composition and publication. His friendship with Finzi allowed his development both musically and personally and his works of this period were arrangements of orchestral works, although he also wrote many songs and a first symphony of 1933. Sadly from 1939 onwards and many organ works were composed although it can be described as a period of descending darkness. Following the deaths of his two great friends (Finzi and Vaughan Williams), alongside the deletion of many works from the catalogues of his publishers, Milford sadly gave up his life and died on 29 December 1959. This recording is a fine tribute to his organ works - the first to be dedicated solely to his organ compositions.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
