“full rein given to the ballet’s explosive side, often underplayed; as part of that, the wide range observed in crescendo markings, the underplaying of which Ravel himself complained about; splendidly rude bassoons for Dorcon’s clumsy dance; and beautiful flute playing from Marion Ralincourt.” - BBC Music Magazine “With fine choral contributions from the Ensemble Aedes, this new recording is highly recommended.“ -Gramophone François-Xavier Roth leads Les Siècles and Ensemble Aedes with flutist Marion Ralincourt in a lush, historically-informed recording of Ravel's score for the 1912 ballet Daphnis et Chloé. Commissioned by Diaghilev for the Ballet Russes and featuring choreography by Fokine, the scenario was adapted from the Greek legend of a goatherd and shepherdess and is regarded as one of Ravel's finest works. The impressionist textures and colours of the score are given new life by the use of French-made woodwind and brass along with gut strings, making for an important addition to existing recordings of this piece. “At this moment in the history of music, Ravel raised the French ‘Impressionist’ orchestral style to a sort of apogee – in a sense it is the last great comédie-ballet in the history of French music.” - François-Xavier Roth, conductor and director

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
