"Vem kan segla is an 18th-century song from Åland (an island between Sweden and Finland) sung in Swedish. Folk songs from all over the world shaped my childhood. I remember a hike in the Alps where, after a long climb, I reached a raging mountain stream. I was alone. Listening attentively, the music of the water filled my soul. A melody rose from the depths and my voice mingled wholeheartedly in a duet with the water. This is how the song of the water came about. Bach am Bach is a hymn to the brooks. In this recording, the sound of the water in the Jura merges with the sounds of the cello. Bach on the brook leads to what touches you inside, because we all have a brook that flows in our memories. It is remarkable that Veit Bach (1555-1619), forefather of the Bach family, lived by a stream. He was a miller and baker and played a small lute for his amusement, accompanied by the steady turning of the water wheel. Gilles Cantagrel writes in his work The Mill and the River: 'Born under the sign of Pisces, Johann Sebastian Bach adheres to this image of water. Already through the name of his fathers, Bach, he is the river.' And further: 'He made the flow of water, which he loved so much, one of his tonal signatures '. Each suite received a prologue and an epilogue, a short piece for solo cello in the same or one of the parallel keys. Domenico Gabrielli (1659-1690) can be seen as the forefather of the solo cello. His collection (1689) of seven ricercari, two sonatas and a canon for two cellos bears the indication 'violoncello' for the first time in the history of the cello. The famous cello school of Bologna started with Giovanni Battista Vitali (1632-1692). He was Gabrielli's teacher and wrote diminutions for 'violone' based on well-known dances from the 17th century. The Dutch-born Italian composer Giuseppe Maria Clemens Dall'Abaco (1710-1805) continued the art of the Ricercari from Bologna with his eleven Capricci. I would like to invite everyone to close your eyes; and now: listen and feel Bach am Bach!" - Esmé de Vries

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
