This is the first volume of a pair of albums devoted to the chamber works for strings written by contemporary Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, named Composer of the Year by Musical America in 2008. Saariaho is renowned for her vivid orchestration, however her chamber works as presented here by Meta4 display her ability to create unique sound worlds with only a few instruments. On this recording she also adds live electronics to create a unique colour. Award-winning ensemble Meta4 has become one of the most successful Finnish string quartets internationally.
