The Ying Quartet continues its commitment to expanding the rich string quartet repertoire with this 2011 release devoted to the music of Russian composer Anton Arensky. He actually composed two versions of his String Quartet No. 2; one scored for traditional string quartet, the other scored for violin, viola and two cellos. The string quartet version of the Second Quartet is represented on this album and is in fact the less frequently performed version.
