For this project, guitarist and composer Barbara Jungfer has rearranged well-known and lesser-known German folk songs. She dresses them in colorful and exotic garments, re-arranges them harmonically, underlays them with unexpected grooves and makes them dance. Others may sound lyrical and meditative.
With original compositions inspired by folklore, sometimes reminiscent of alphorn echo, sometimes of Zwiefacher or Balkan blues, she skilfully illuminates the folk song theme from the other side. She builds a bridge from the past to the present, combines traditional song culture with jazz and at the same time the music of different cultures with each other.
In the interplay with Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize winner Karoline Höfler on double bass and Stefan Noelle on drums and percussion, a lively interaction is created - jazz goes folk, folk goes jazz!
