Saint-Saëns often visited Northern Africa and found inspiration in the culture and music there which he then used in his larger orchestral works. This albums takes listeners on a cultural journey throughout the sounds of Northern Africa through the compositional structure as well as the thematic material influenced by dance rhythms. Jun Märkl leads the Basque National Orchestra in the reimagining of some of Saint-Saëns’ more well-known works on this album.
