"...an old-school craftsman who knows the music inside out and prepares every performance thoroughly but who gives them their heads in performance."
- The Chicago Tribune
Conductor Mariss Jansons pays tribute to Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov's symphonic poems, including The Bells, a poem based on Edgar Allan Poe's writings. Jansons brings out the wide variety of musical colors in Rachmaninov's work which suits his orchestra perfectly. It is clear throughout the album how careful Jansons is to interpreting exactly what Rachmaninov would have wanted.
