"The Turtle Island Quartet is its own invention, and the members embrace it."
- Kevin Wilt, Palm Beach Daily News
"So goes the TISQ musical M.O., sparkly and fresh while also sophisticated and deeply musical,
and full of effective low-meets-high cultural maneuvering."
- Joseph Woodard, Santa Barbara News Press
"Jazz music and string instruments do not usually go together unless you are the Turtle Island Quartet."
- Randall G. Mielke, Elgin Courier News
The Grammy-winning Turtle Island Quartet is best known for their interpretation of a variety of unique contemporary American music. Specifically this album Bird's Eye View pays tribute to Charlie ""Bird"" Parker's contributions to the world of jazz. This album incorporates a wide variety of genres into each compositions, genres such as jazz, classical, modern, and world music.
"In our case, we were formed for the express purpose of doing what we’ve wanted to do since childhood: play improvised music and jazz using our classical training as string players."
- David Balakrishnan, Turtle Island String Quartet
