Legendary pianist Pina Napolitano accepts Schoenberg's invitation to view Brahms as "the father of modernism" in his essay entitled " Brahms the Progressive." She chooses a program to showcase the evolution of modernism, starting with romantic echoes in Brahm's involvement with the Second Viennese School, moving to Webern's unique musical language and stress on silences, and ending with Berg's signature metrical ambiguity. This album musically proves Brahm was, in fact, a progressive.
