Digital Booklet
"Every one of these pieces is a masterpiece ..." - The Absolute Sound "... a near definitive set of Schubert's sonatas ... Barenboim asserts his position among the greatest pianists of our time, bringing out every nuance and emotion with his immaculate technique and virtuosity." - Classic FM "With the superb depth of the recording quality in this set nothing Barenboim places before us is wasted. His highly sustained level of communication is a joy to behold and to hear unfold ... what Barenboim brings to the Schubert stable is very worthwhile indeed ..." - MusicWeb International Daniel Barenboim commemorates his 60th year as a recording artist in 2014 by releasing this ambitious project: a five-disc set of the complete piano sonatas by Schubert. Barenboim spent upwards of six hours a day recording these sonatas, an experience he says that offered new insights into the composer's work. "... for much of my life I didn’t pay a great deal of attention to these wonderful works. They barely played any role in my studies and these works simply passed me by. I had browsed through them and I’d played a few of them at home, but I had never explored them as a complete set. A project like this, the opportunity to focus exclusively on one composer, is a real luxury. And now, having had the opportunity to sit alone with Schubert in a recording studio for more than six hours a day, I realize what a vital role these works played in his all-too-short musical life." - Daniel Barenboim

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
