The four works for strings included on this 2002 release clearly reflect the musical evolution of Joly Braga Santos, undoubtedly one of the leading Portuguese symphonists of the 20th century. For this reason the works follow the chronological order of their composition. Conductor Álvaro Cassuto has a long history with this composer and his music, having conducted the premiere of the Sinfonietta in 1963.
