Johannes Gustavsson and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra presents works by 19th-century Danish composer C.F.E. Horneman on this release, exploring both purely orchestral and orchestral/vocal pieces. A friend of Grieg, who he met while studying at the Leipzig Conservatory, Horneman composed extensively for the theatre in a warm and lyrical style, on full display in the works included here such as the Heldenleben overture and the incidental music for Kalanus.
