Verve Label Group and UMG present a previously unreleased live album recorded at the 1966 Newport Jazz Festival, entitled You've Got To Learn. The new release is part of the ongoing, year-long celebration of what would have been Simone’s 90th birthday. The Newport Jazz Festival had always brought the best out in Nina Simone. When she took to that famous stage on July 2, 1966, the audience was treated to the full range of her artistry—from the opener, a breathtaking version of “You’ve Got To Learn” to a uniquely swinging take on “Mississippi Goddam”. Unwilling to let her leave the stage, and after sustained applause, her fans were rewarded with the show-stopping encore, “Music For Lovers”. This previously-unknown and unreleased recording makes it clear why hearing Nina Simone in concert was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Liner notes are by Shana L. Redmond, scholar and author. Simone’s six-song performance at the festival, on July 2, 1966, was so forceful that it has held a place in the memory of music fans ever since. The previously unknown recording of the event now makes it available to be heard all over the world, capturing the vitality of her stage presence, her musical brilliance, remarkable vocal range, the magnetism of her performance and interaction with the audience.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
