Digital Booklet
"... a great orchestra clearly enjoying itself in the company of a conductor it likes and respects and playing music that is in its blood." - Wondering Sound "Four Stars ... Davis is marvellous at bringing out the subtleties of Elgar's orchestration ... an absolutely first-rate recording of wonderfully natural depth and presence." - BBC Music Magazine "... Davis and the ever-excellent London Symphony Orchestra show Elgar off in his best possible light. Sensitive in the dazzlingly evocative Nimrod, nimble in the sprightly Introduction and Allegro, this is a testament to indulging in a little bit of patriotism." - Classic FM The Variations on an Original Theme, or 'Enigma' as it is commonly known, brought Elgar overnight fame when it appeared in 1899. The music is glorious from start to finish, especially in the serene Nimrod. Each variation is given a cryptic title referring to one of Elgar's friends, although the overall enigma behind the original theme has never been deciphered.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
