“Scherbakov's touch is wonderfully expressive of atmosphere, and, in the concluding piece of souped-up Strauss, he blends virtuosity with real artistry.”
- BBC Music Magazine
“a must for all enthusiasts of romantic and virtuosic piano music.”
- MusicWeb International
Russian pianist Konstantin Scherbakov presents two inventive works by the composer and virtuoso pianist Leopold Godowsky. The main focus of this release is the popular four-part Java Suite inspired by the music and landscape of that country, which the composer visited in 1922. It is paired with Godowsky's fantasia or “metamorphosis” on Johann Strauss II's Wine, Women and Song, a highly virtuosic reimagining of the famous Viennese waltz which Scherbakov performs with relish.
