Digital Booklet
"... performed superbly by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, I can honestly say I am deeply impressed ... has a sparkle and warmth which could come from no one else." - MusicWeb International "... his symphony and especially his piano concerto are consistently engaging and satisfying. There are no dull or weak spots ... I’m grateful for this chance to discover them ... sonics are clear and strong ... sure to please listeners looking to broaden their view of modern but mainstream symphonic music." - American Record Guide Released in 2007 to mark the 90th birthday of prolific yet neglected English composer John Gardner, this recording by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra led by David Lloyd-Jones showcases the piano work of Peter Donohoe on the Piano Concerto No.1, receiving only its third performance here. Both that concerto and the Symphony No. 1 are two relatively early works written in the post-war years while the Midsummer Ale is a classic piece of British light music with delightfully catchy melodies.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
