At the beginning of 2020, one of the last remaining veterans of “classic rock” announced his official departure from the music business: Chris Thompson, who achieved world fame with his distinctive voice and the hits of Manfred Mann's Earth Band, is retiring from live events. The Brit, who grew up in New Zealand, has set himself the goal of performing again in all the halls, clubs and festivals that have accompanied him over the last few years by his 75th birthday in March 2022.
“Nowadays hardly anyone believes that it is really a band’s last tour. Unfortunately, the term 'final tour' has become a marketing tool. In my case that is certainly not the case. The 'to do list' that needs to be completed after touring is still too big,” the 73-year-old recently assured at one of his concerts. And his list is long!
