The finger-style guitarist, Charlie Byrd, was perhaps best known for his association with the Brazilian samba. Heavily influenced by the Romani-French jazz guitarist, Django Reinhardt, Byrd brought influences of 'gypsy-jazz', classical, and latin into his acoustic guitar playing.
On this anthology album, Byrd is paired with the rhythm section of Keter Betts (bass) and Buddy Deppenschmidt (Drums): equally renown for their influence on the latin-jazz explosion of the 60s. The three performers are found on Byrd & Stan Getz's legendary album Jazz Samba – perhaps the most instrumental album in introducing the Brazilian Samba to American audiences. Three tracks from that record are included here - with Stan Getz featured on saxophone - among many other must-listen tracks for fans of Charlie Byrd and latin jazz alike.
