When it came time for Kiss to record their second album, the four New Yorkers had to relocate temporarily to Los Angeles where their production team had moved. Like fish out of water, the band members hated it on the West Coast. Still, they came up with a great batch of songs, several remaining concert favourites four decades later. Released only eight months after the band's self-titled debut, this material is darker and the sound is raw, lacking the slickness of the band's later recordings.
