Jethro Tull‘s 1982 album The Broadsword and the Beast is celebrated in the form of The 40th Anniversary Monster Edition, which includes in the full boxed set this brand new Steven Wilson Remix. The Broadsword and the Beast is the 14th studio album by Jethro Tull, released on 10 April 1982 and according to Ian Anderson in the liner notes of the remastered CD, contains some of Jethro Tull’s best music. This album’s masterful storytelling, accompanied by Ian Anderson’s unmistakable flute melodies, garnered critical acclaim and has become a fan favourite over the years. The album mixes electronic sound, provided by Peter-John Vettese (a characteristic that would be explored further on the next album Under Wraps) with acoustic instruments. The Broadsword and the Beast is a cross between the synthesiser sound of the 1980s and the folk-influenced style that Tull had in the previous decade. "... The 40th Anniversary packages includes my remix of the original 10 track album and an additional 28 (!) studio tracks most of which are songs not present on the album – the 1981-82 period was an extremely prolific time for Ian and the band. Most of this material is also present in 5.1 surround form. A live recording taken from a number of German shows on the subsequent tour has also been remixed and restored and appears in both stereo and 4.1. I take the opportunity to acknowledge there’s been a veritable onslaught of my classic album remix projects announced over the last few weeks (and there’s more to come). Many of these were done over a very long period – this one for example completed nearly 2 years ago – but Covid and other issues have conspired to make it look like I haven’t slept this year!" - Steven Wilson

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
