Charles-Marie Widor's Organ Symphony No. 2 is a demanding virtuoso showpiece in six movements of strongly contrasting character, with a particularly sopectacular virtuoso finale. Pierre Labric's recording of the complete work in its final, definitive edition was included in Musical Heritage Society's landmark first release of a complete cycle of Widor's ten virtuoso organ symphonies. Labric was one of the most distinguished organists of the 20th century and a tireless champion of French romantic repertoire. Labric's recorded legacy is small but was deeply influential, and his recordings of the organ symphonies of Widor and Vierne, released on LP by Musical Heritage Society, were revelatory readings that many critics and connoisseurs considered definitive.
After having been unavailable for over four decades, Orpheus is proud to release these recordings, newly remastered from archival sources, making them worldwide for the first time.
