Senza Sapere Niente di Lei (1969, Luigi Comencini) is one of the first scores composed by Ennio Morricone for a Giallo film, just ahead of the great season of the cult Italian thrilling genre forged by Dario Argento.
It is one of his most ethereal scores, with a sweet and delicate theme unfolding in a lullaby to the rhythm of a valzer. Think lounge-jazz to experimental music. The final result is a sensual and suave sound that matches the quintessential morbid style of Giallo cinema.
Morricone Segreto: an eccentric underground genius who used his refined education to implant cultured materials in a daily, popular context. This facet of the Maestro is mostly unknown to the broader audience, but over time, under the surface, it circulated amongst diggers and connoisseurs, revealing itself in its occult beauty and progressively gaining fond influence over many musicians and composers. The Morricone Segreto series kicked off with the homonymous collection exploring the richest creative period of the Maestro's career, between the end of the ‘60s and the early ‘80s, blending avant-garde solutions with the finest pop-psych attitude. The following chapters of the series focused on single hidden soundtracks by the Maestro, such as I Malamondo (1964) and Il Bandito dagli Occhi Azzurri (1980). Morricone Segreto is proof that even a celebrated and renowned legend like Ennio Morriconecan still holds secrets yet to be unveiled.
