Digital Booklet
It may seem wonderfully easy to enter the Gustav Mahler cosmos via his First Symphony, with its ecstatic ending, but the composer’s own entry into the symphonic world was a rocky one. His First would pass through many versions before reaching its definitive form. A movement with the prettily floral title "Blumine" was discarded in this process, but Music Director Yutaka Sado has chosen to present it for discussion as part of his far-reaching Mahler explorations with the Tonkunstler Orchestra. In this configuration, with the "Blumine" movement in second position, they performed Mahler’s First in March 2023 at the Musikverein Wien. "The very first record I purchased with my saved-up pocket money was Mahler’s First Symphony in the recording conducted by Bernstein", Yutaka Sado recalls in an extensive editorial that precedes the reflections on the work in the booklet. As a Viennese orchestra with a musical tradition dating back over a century, the Tonkunstler Orchestra, like the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, plays Viennese instruments.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
