With the British invasion in full swing, the Rolling Stones were prophetically announced as England’s Newest Hit Makers when this album was released in 1964. It was timed to coincide with the Stones’s arrival in New York City to kick off their first US tour, which was poorly attended in the eight cities the band visited. Consisting almost entirely of cover songs of American R&B with only three originals, the success of the classic Not Fade Away, the band's first US single, helped propel this album to number 11 in the US.
