Digital Booklet
"It seems pointless to try too hard to describe these tracks; like most jazz, folk and early music, all of which is draws from, people will surrender to its atmosphere and sound (beautiful, in my opinion, and beautifully recorded too) before its intellectual processes." - Gramophone "Five Stars ... all members of both editions of the Project can call on a deep understanding and wide experience of improvisation, a skill still expected of musicians when these pieces were devised ... this album has all the virtues and delights of the previous ones. If anything, it’s more challenging and experimental. These immaculate, lithe performances, replete with passion, adventurousness, exemplary phrasing and timing and tonal beauty, will make your scalp prickle." - BBC Music Magazine From its inception, John Potter’s Dowland Project has drawn upon different musical traditions, including those of early music and improvisation. These Night Sessions emphasize the Project’s improvisational flexibility and resourcefulness, as the musicians create new music in the moment, sometimes with medieval poetry as inspirational reference and guide. There are also a number of "daytime" pieces worked up, as Potter notes, from small amounts of notation. Two incarnations of the Dowland Project are heard here: the original band with Potter, Stephen Stubbs and John Surman joined by Barry Guy and Maya Homburger, as well as the revised lineup with Milos Valent on violin and viola.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
