Yumiko FUKAO has released the recording of Déodat de Sévérac’s complete collection of piano works. This is the first time that a Japanese pianist records the entire collection of Sévérac’s music in Japan.
Ms. Fukao’s interpretation is backed by her writings "Reminiscent Variations," which is a detailed commentary and in-depth analysis of Déodat de Sévérac’s entire piano works to be published by Shunjusha in Japan.(April 2024). The book is based on the results of her doctoral dissertation research about the French composer’s creative thought and interpretation of works, which Ms.Fukao conducted at Toho Gakuen Graduate School of Music. The book is also the first of its kind in Japan.
With the four albums being released at the same time, listeners can travel through the composer’s musical world: indeed Ms. Fukao’s lively interpretations are rendered even more authentic thanks to her deep knowledge of the composer’s life. The recordings were made on two different pianos: a Bösendorfer and a New York Steinway. It would be interesting to compare the difference in tones of both instruments.
