Digital Booklet
"A simply splendid album. The organ … is a delight to the ears, its manifest charms precisely mapped out in detailed registrations provided in the excellent booklet … above all, of course, is Herrick's immensely enjoyable playing … all in all a delight to the ears which brings a smile to the face and a lift to the soul." - Gramophone "Herrick's generously-timed programme consists of an entertaining mix of items, mainly Praeludia or Chorale Preludes. Slower, ruminative pieces alternate with boisterous, dramatic works in a recital that manages to be both elegant and fulgurous, profound and sensuous. Works generally run to less than four minutes each, but short does not equate with inconsequential in Buxtehude's music: even the merest pieces speak volumes about the composer's imagination, virtuosity and originality … this set ought to be the primary destination for collectors.' - MusicWeb International Mariager Monastery, founded in 1446, was the second of two Birgittine monasteries in Denmark, where sixty nuns and twenty-five priests and lay brothers lived in strict isolation at either end of the monastery. The founder of this unique mixed Order, Saint Birgitta of Sweden (1303–1373), had laid down a highly detailed set of rules for their spiritual life. In 1536 the Protestant Reformation closed the Catholic monasteries in Denmark and the landed property passed to the Crown. The monks and nuns were allowed to stay on for the rest of their lives, but the monastery served as a Protestant home for unmarried ladies of rank until 1585, at which point the church became a Parish Church. The Thirty Years’ War and the war against Sweden in the seventeenth century ruined the economy of the town and the church was near to collapse. In 1788 four of the five aisles were demolished and the church was rebuilt in its present cruciform shape, about a quarter of its original size. The idea of having a new organ worthy of the wonderful church acoustics and an enhancement to its busy concert life was conceived around the millennium. In 2004 the French organ builder Bernard Aubertin was asked to build it, but the Danish authorities only gave their go-ahead in 2007. A contract was signed for an organ of twenty-seven stops, with preparations for another nineteen. Most of the discussions had revolved around the design of the instrument and its appearance in the church, rather than the sound. Fortunately, a donation from ‘A.P. Møller and wife Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller’s Foundation for General Purposes’ provided the missing five million Danish kroner so the organ could be inaugurated as a complete instrument in 2010. It is the second French-built organ in Denmark, the other being the historic Cavaillé-Coll in Jesus Church, Copenhagen. With its six wedge-bellows and other debts to historic organ-building practices, the Aubertin organ should certainly inspire future generations.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
